Transport and Distribution
Like any company, moving our goods from source to depot to customer requires transportation.
We recognise the impact that such transport has on the climate and are conscious to minimise our CO2 emissions through efficient transportation policies.
We aim to fill our trucks so that we maximise our load. Load fill is one of our key performance indicators that is measured and reported on each month. Our hauler has an 80% back load rate which reduces wasteful journeys.
This is how we’re reducing our impact:
- We’ve recently moved our warehouse facility to the same plot of land as the converting site (previously 7 miles apart). This removes the transport required to move finished product to storage and cuts one of the links in our transport chain.
- All of our heavy goods vehicles are at least Euro III compliant on emissions; this is an EU directive that requires vehicles to be equipped with an onboard diagnostic system for emission control.
- Our forklift trucks run on the more environmentally friendly LPG fuel as opposed to diesel.
- Our electric fork lift trucks are fitted with ‘Track air’ batteries which allow for faster and more efficient charging.
Here's what our preferred hauler is doing to reduce their carbon footprint
R.T Keedwell Group, our nominated hauler, have implemented a Carbon Reduction Programme which reduces fuel consumption through a number of procedures and initiatives:
- GPS tracked vehicles with integrated traffic systems.
- Engine telemetry recording to monitor performance and eliminate excessive idling.
- Driver training programme designed to educate all drivers to the most fuel efficient ways of driving through benchmarking best performance (driver fuel consumption recorded weekly and charted in a league table).
